Citizens Action Foundation
The Citizens Action Foundation is the legislative arm of the Citizens Coalition. It was established as a 501 (c) (4) in 2003 to allow members of Citizens Coalition to lobby legislators on land use and environmental laws, as well as support political candidates who will work for responsible land use and strong environmental laws.
(Citizens Coalition is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) group and cannot endorse candidates nor can it lobby directly for legislative reform. Hence, the Citizens Action Foundation was formed.)
The Action Foundation is an organization comprised of concerned citizens and civic and environmental groups committed to protecting and preserving the quality of life and environmental stability of Delaware's coastal communities.
The Citizens Action Foundation
- Joined a coalition of civic and environmental organizations supporting Common Cause's proposal to establish an independent commission for future re-districting.
- Published public advisories regarding environmental and land-use related actions of Coastal Sussex County's political candidates.
- Endorsed those candidates whose views and actions promoted sound environmental decisions and responsible land use for Sussex County.
- Met with the area's legislators to discuss concerns regarding both statewide and local environmental, land-use and infrastructure issues.
- Joined a coalition of civic and environmental organizations requesting that the Governor intercede in DNREC's attempts to compromise the public hearing process.
Current Activity
Through the combined efforts of various state agencies a Best Management Practices Manual was adopted. With the manual in place, a detailed map of designated wellheads and critical re-charge areas, as well as technical assistance, is available to help ensure water quality.
The members of the Citizens Action Foundation:
- Work for the adoption of an ordinance to provide the necessary protection for a public wellhead or excellent re-charge area, if present on the site
- Provide consistent oversight of Public Wellhead and Excellent Recharge areas' protection
The members also monitor legislative initiatives regarding land use and testify on various land use legislation.
Membership is open to all.
